How Can constipation Along With Vomiting be Treated?

My 12 year old daughter is extremely constipated, very little bowel movement in the last 10 days. She is throwing up several times a day. The E.R. Doctor told me to give her miralax but it isn t working. I gave her 2 suppositories today and still no BM. Would it be ok to give her another suppository?

Hi,

You should take your daughter to a surgeon to exclude any obstructive cause for the symptoms which carry a totally different line of treatment.

Once that is clear, she can be given a glycerine syringe/soap water enema to clear her bowels. This should be accompanied by IV fluid replacement and injectable to control her vomiting.

She would need hospitalization for all of these but would be ok in a couple of days to prevent the problem in future.

- Any bowel infection or infestation needs to be specifically treated.
- Regular exercise.
- Sufficient fibers and water in the diet should be maintained.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
